1979 Argentine Grand Prix

The Argentine Grand Prix 1979 was the 1st round of the 1979 F1 season, and took place at the Autódromo Juan y Oscar Gálvez in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on January 21st.

Jacques Laffite won the race from the pole, followed by Carlos Reutemann, and John Watson completing the podium.

These included, Gilles Villeneuve, Jean-Pierre Jarier, Jean-Pierre Jabouille, and René Arnoux, all of whom suffered an engine malfunction, Hector Rebaque, who suffered a suspension problem on lap 46, Jan Lammers, who had a transmission problem on lap 42, James Hunt, who suffered from electrical problems on lap 41, Niki Lauda, who had a fuel system failure on lap 8, Jody Scheckter, Didier Pironi, Patrick Tambay, Nelson Piquet, and Arturo Merzario, all of whom retired dure to damage caused by a collision with other cars, Riccardo Patrese, who had to retire due to an accident on lap 0, and Hans-Joachim Stuck, who withdrew on lap 0.
